How it all started
Moving back to the UAE from Singapore gave Petra, at that time a mum of toddler twins, lots of new tasks to tackle. Finding a nursery or activities and places to go to is always a challenge - but especially true so when you are new in town or arriving during the hot summer months. And that's how the idea of an online directory of things was born as I believe the internet is a good way to share and obtain information.
Launched in June 2005, DubaiKidz.biz is Dubai’s first online resource for families. With a wealth of essential information for parents, including education, health, birthdays, activities, kids’ rooms and a section for mums, the site provides a one-stop source of continually up-dated services and activities. A popular What’s On section, bi-monthly newsletter, E-zine and Facebook pages ensure parents are constantly informed on current events.
How it has grown
Five years later, during 2010 and with the help of Amelia, the Dubai Kidz website was relaunched and the Abu Dhabi website was launched. Increasing traffic to the sites, circulation of E-zine, growing number of newsletter subscribers and Facebook fans, is all testimony to the success of both sites.
The Dubai site has been recognised by two UAE and one Pan Arab web:
2008 - Bronze - Directories and Info Services - UAE Web Award
2009 - Second Prize - Culture - UAE Web Award
November 2010 saw us pretty excited as Petra was one of five finalists and had been shortlisted for the ADCB Ambition Award 2010!
The two Kidz Biz websites shall be up to the minute informative local snapshots for busy mums and dads of what is happening on a day to day basis in a quick and easy manner. It is for parents who want to research the broad range of opportunities available to children of all ages. The websites shall contain listings on educational establishments, after school activities, enrichment classes as well as other sources of information such as classified ads and a newsletter service for free. They furthermore contain sections for mums to be, mums to mums, children with special needs, charity organisations, medical centres and more.
