How it all started

Moving back to the UAE in 2005 gave me (Petra), at that time a mum of toddler twins, lots of new tasks to tackle. Finding a nursery or activities and places to go to is always a challenge - but especially true so when you are new in town or during the hot summer months. And that's how I came up with the idea of creating an online directory of things to do with kids, as I believe the internet is a good way to share and obtain information.

How it has grown

As a new mom trying to start out as a freelance graphic designer I (Amelia), contacted Petra offering to redesign the site pro-bono. Over a long period of time of trying to juggle motherhood and my other freelance gigs, I eventually was able to bring the redesign to fruition. And so in January 2010 the Dubai Kidz website was relaunched!

With Petra's impending move to Abu Dhabi she expressed her need for a partner and I naturally jumped at the chance as the site had become very close to my heart, as I too believe in knowledge sharing like Petra and feel that Kidz Biz is a great tool for every parent in the UAE. Growing forward

Over the summer 2010 we have now launched our newest website for parents in Abu Dhabi! Our Mission

The two Kidz Biz websites shall be up to the minute informative local snapshots for busy mums and dads of what is happening on a day to day basis in a quick and easy manner. It is for parents who want to research the broad range of opportunities available to children of all ages. The websites shall contain listings on educational establishments, after school activities, enrichment classes as well as other sources of information such as classified ads and a newsletter service for free. They furthermore contain sections for mums to be, mums to mums, children with special needs, charity organisations, medical centres and more.

Launched in June 2005 by Petra Sander, the mother of twins, DubaiKids.biz is Dubai’s first online resource for families. With a wealth of essential information for parents, including education, health, birthdays, activities, kids’ rooms and a section for mums, the site provides a one-stop source of continually up-dated services and activities. A popular What’s On section, bi-monthly newsletter, E-zine and Facebook pages ensure parents are constantly informed on current events.

The site has been recognised by the awarding of UAE web Awards for two consecutive years a SILVER in the Cultural category in 2009 and a BRONZE for Information Services in 2008. Traffic to the site, circulation of E-zine, growing number of newsletter subscribers and Facebook fans, is all testimony to the success of the site.

In 2009, Amelia Wilson joined the team to redesign the website and take over the operations of the Dubai arm, allowing Petra to concentrate on the new venture of AbuDhabiKidz.biz!
