Protect Your Child from Safety Hazards in the Bathroom – Action Plan

This is number 4 in our series of articles on child safety. So far we have looked at Window and Balcony Safety and Preventing Falls, Kitchen Safety, and last month we considered Safety in the Sun. In each article we have outlined an action plan built on our own experience and research, and we have asked for your shared ideas. These action plans are presented as a list of points to think about, and preventative measures to take in order to protect our cherished Little Ones. We would like to emphasise that baby and child safety is not just a matter of following a recipe list of do's and don'ts, it is a frame of mind, an awareness of surroundings from the point of view of a Little One, and an awareness of possible risks using the brains of Mums and Dads. Summer in Abu Dhabi

Summer In Abu Dhabi, the month-long blockbuster, family-centric edutainment event, which will run across four halls, spanning 18,969 square metres, at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from June 21-July 19, will this year feature 11 mega activities and will be the highlight of a mega promotion with spectacular seasonal deals from Etihad Airways. It promises to be more entertaining than ever with the ‘Summer In Abu Dhabi’ festival hosting ‘Show World’ which will see four character performances every weekday and six on weekends.

All in all seven different character shows have been lined up for ‘Show World’ including the highly popular 20-minute Louna musical, which will be performed in Arabic and English and bring the Arab world’s favourite doll to life. Other shows include The Jungle Book, Ice Age and four fairy-tale ice spectaculars - Peter Pan, Snow White, Cinderella and Beauty And The Beast.

The fun this year starts from the very moment Summer In Abu Dhabi goers arrive at ADNEC as a special train will take families from the car park to the festival entrance. Once inside, visitors can step back millions of years to the Ice Age Village where activities inspired by the popular Ice Age movie, the fourth installment of which will hit cinema screens this summer. Over in Adventure World the daring can join in telematch activities in the Lost City or take up the Zorb Ball Challenge over an obstacle-rich course. Eight challenges and fun activities await in the Galatic Academy including the testing trial of passing through the Laser Room without crossing laser beams and lines. In The Sea Lion Station there are great chances to capture lasting family memories when three sea lions, which will perform 20-30 minutes interactive shows, pause for photo opportunities with their audience. Families with an artistic bent will love Artsvile, which comes alive with eight activities and where kids can paint their own T-shirts, plates and even faces! At the Clown Stunt Academy youngsters can learn how to perform movie stunts through seven different interactive activities while the daring can get onboard the ‘Big Bag Jump’ and plunge into a massive air bag from a height of 10 metres.

All the activities will be backed by a bigger-than-ever summer playground, fun fair rides and games, while in three adjoining halls, Abu Dhabi Sports Council will host a range of activities and workshops as part of its Summer Sports Festival targeted at sports enthusiasts from five to 35 years of aged. These will include judo, basketball, soccer, table tennis, tennis, badminton and golf. Summer In Abu Dhabi will be open at ADNEC from 3pm – 9pm Sunday-Thursday; from 2pm until 10pm on Friday-Saturday. Entry to ADNEC’s Summer In Abu Dhabi activities, including the three Abu Dhabi Sports Council sports halls, is AED 40 (US $11) for adults and AED 30 (US $8.5) for children under 12 years of age. Tickets can be bought at the door.
